Description

Starting the Bring Your Own Coffee & Donuts to Learn Programs

by COL Steve Bond, USA-Retired

For those of you missing our monthly Speaker Luncheons and Current Affairs Forums, we are introducing a new speaker program that adheres to social distancing guidelines.  We’re calling it the “Bring Your Own Coffee & Donuts to Learn” Program.  The idea is to host a speaker with a topic of general member interest each month and use Zoom video-teleconferencing for the meeting.  Those participating can view or listen to the program from the comfort of their own home.  We are starting the program in June and will continue until the social distancing recommendations are lifted.

Before we can get started with the program however, we need to get more members comfortable using Zoom.  To assist with that, there is a 9-minute Instructional video--Joining a Zoom Call for the First Time—posted on our new website (www.MOAACC.org).   If you have not used Zoom before or just need a refresher, we encourage you to view this short, 9-minute video.  By the way, those that have participated in our resent meetings have been impressed with the ease of “Zooming”.

The inaugural “Bring Your Own Coffee & Donuts to Learn” event will be on Thursday, 18 June, immediately following the abbreviated (30-minute) virtual TMBC.  COL Mike Schroeder, our webmaster will provide an orientation on the new website and underlying membership management system.  Mike will demonstrate navigating the website, how to use the on-line directory to look up other members, RSVP for events, and other features.  You will also be able to ask questions.

The BYO-Coffee & Donuts program is a way to not only learn, but to stay connected while our in-person events and meetings are impacted by social distancing measures.  It is also an opportunity to get more familiar with the tools we now have to virtually connect our members.  In the coming months, we are lining up a series of interesting speakers and topics.  If you are not comfortable using Zoom, be sure to review the instructional video that explains, in simple terms, how to join a Zoom meeting.   Save the date for the first BYO Coffee and Donuts Program set for Wednesday, 18 June to learn more about our new website and the membership management system features.  Be watching for the invitation email that will be sent out in early June to RSVP for the event.  For security purposes, without RSVPing you will not get the instructions for joining.

We are looking forward to seeing you on the 18th and at our future speaker events-just remember to bring your own coffee & donuts!
