Description

The New Dynamics of Violence in Society by Dr Larry Barton

It is all around us and sometimes it strikes close to home.  In recent years we have seen tragedies and senseless violence at the Pulse Nightclub in Orlando, Parkland High School, houses of worship, small and large businesses, and on military installations. Shaw AFB recently closed for three days after several suicides in two months--the first time a base commander ordered an emotional "time out" for all civilian and enlisted personnel.

Our luncheon speaker for March is Dr. Larry Barton, Distinguished Professor of Crisis Management and Public Safety at the University of Central Florida (UCF) and a resident of Cocoa Beach.  Our topic is The New Dynamics of Violence in Society.  A noted speaker and lecturer, Dr. Barton teaches threat assessment to law enforcement chiefs around the nation, and is the highest rated instructor for the past 15 years at the FBI Academy in Quantico, VA.  For over three decades he has managed over 2,000 cases of homicide, suicide, threats and assaults at civilian and military locations, and during high profile assaults.  He is also an on-the-air commentator for CNN and CNBC.  This is a rare opportunity to understand some of the dynamics in a new world of stress and help identify indicators of potential violence.  You can learn more about Dr. Barton at larrybarton.com.

Join us as we welcome Dr. Barton as our March Luncheon Speaker on Tuesday, 17 March.   Please arrive by 1130 for check-in and seating.  The Call-To-Order is promptly at 12 noon, with the presentation beginning at 1225.  Reservations are required NLT Thursday, 12 February.  The cost is $18 per person – see the menu choices and details in the Intercom.  For your convenience you may pay on-line or at the door with cash, check, or credit card.  You may use the form in the back of The Intercom, by contacting Mary McIntyre at 321-254-6997, by emailing her at mmcintyreluncheon@gmail.com, or you may make your reservation and pay with your credit card online at www.moaacc.org.  Don’t miss this special MOAACC event!
