Description

Our annual Chapter Business Meeting is scheduled for Tuesday, 17 November from 11:30AM to 1:00PM.  All chapter members are invited and encouraged to participate.  You can participate in person at the Veterans Memorial Center or Virtual via Zoom Teleconferencing (link and training instructions contained in this notice).  At the meeting, we will discuss the “State of the Chapter”, our financial posture, and vote on next year’s slate of officers, directors, and changes to the Bylaws (links to documents below).  The meeting will be both in-person at the Brevard Veterans Memorial Center (VMC), and virtual using Zoom video teleconferencing.  At the VMC, we will observe social distancing guidelines and have lunch on-site.  Save the date and don’t miss this important chapter meeting!

The MOAACC Board of Directors approved the 2020 revisions to the Chapter’s governing documents at the September board meeting.  Our governing documents are the Chapter Bylaws—the policies of the chapter, and the Handbook—which outlines procedures.  The Board approved revisions of these document are posted on our website (www.MOAACC.org).

The changes to Bylaws will be voted on for approval by the membership at our Annual Business Meeting on 17 November.  The Bylaw revisions include:

  • Making “Surviving Spouses” a membership category, replacing “Auxiliary members”.  Note we will continue to have an Auxiliary Committee made up primarily of Surviving Spouse and Spouse chapter members.
  • Clarifying the MOAACC relationship to our 501(c)(3) non-profit organizations as “supporting organizations” to MOAACC Inc.  Identifies the 501(c)(3)s in the document by their legal names— “MOAACC Scholarship Corporation” and “MOAACC Good Deeds Foundation”.
  • Adding “Space Force” to the Uniformed Services eligible for membership in the chapter.
  •  Changing “Chairman” to “Chairperson”.
  • Making the Membership Chair, instead of the Secretary, responsible for notifying members delinquent in paying dues.
  • Granting Surviving Spouses of annual-regular members with membership in the Chapter for one year after the death of their spouse at no additional cost.
  • Other edits to clarify the meaning and intent of the Bylaws.

The Chapter Handbook is reviewed and approved annually by the Board of Directors.  It is the chapter’s procedural manual that identifies the responsibility of the chapter officers, directors, liaisons, committee chairpersons, special assistants, etc.  It is a “must read” for all chapter leaders.
