05/01/2023

From 26-28 April all 21 of the original oil paintings created by Gold Star Mother and artist, Jeanne Weaver were seen by hundreds on the third floor Rotunda of our State Capitol Building in Tallahassee.  Sen Debbie Mayfield and her staff arranged the showing to coincide with them final full week of nigh Florida Legislative session in the spirit of the upcoming Memorial Day weekend.

The series, called Losing Todd:  A Mother’s Journey, were created over a year long period after 1LT Todd William Weaver, US Army was Killed in Action in Afghanistan on 09 Sep 2010.  Later the College of William and Mary in Virginia , Todd’s Alma Mater, created a book with the same title with articles from many, including former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.

The paintings have been shown in the Brevard area and in Virginia and Wash DC previously.  They also were on display 24-31 May at the Porcher House in Cocoa Village near the Riverfront Park over Memorial Day Weekend.

Jeanne is a member of MOAACC’s authors group and her books are available through her or at the VMC Sales store.

She hopes her paintings inspire rather than sadden viewers since it was her way to work through unimaginable grief to create a lasting legacy about her son, but also to help others who have experienced loss and to remind Americans of the personal cost of freedom.
