One Senior Place event discusses benefits for those left behind   

(VIERA, FL) October 16, 2023 – Preparing for life after the death of a spouse is never easy. But for the surviving spouse and family members of veterans, active or retired military service members, there are benefits to which they may be entitled. One Senior Place will host a discussion about the many resources and benefits available for veteran families on Wednesday, November 1 at 2:00 PM at the senior-focused information and resource center at 8085 Spyglass Hill Road in Viera. The discussion will be facilitated by VITAS Health Care, with additional information provided by the Military Officers Association of America, Cape Canaveral Chapter, Disabled American Veterans Chapter 123 and National Cremation Society. "Many people are unaware of the benefits and resources that are exclusive to U.S. veterans and their spouses," said Tucker." "There are a host of things that can help ease the burden on the family left behind."

Cape Canaveral chapter president for the Military Officers Association of America, Brian Whalen spells it out. 

This event is for planning ahead of time," said Whalen. "By the time a person becomes a surviving spouse, we want them to be prepared, with all their questions already answered. It's too late at that point to ask what a DD Fm 214 is and other questions."
