COVID-19 Facility Closures - PAFB

08/27/2020

Team Patrick/Cape,

As the number of COVID-19 cases in the State of Florida and Brevard County rise, we are taking additional measures to ensure the safety of our members, the mission and our community. We have had positive cases associated with Patrick Air Force Base, including team members within the MDG, and will be temporary closing facilities/limiting services for sanitation and deep cleaning.

Clinical operations are suspended for the remainder of the day and a large portion of the MDG will be tested to ensure we have a solid understanding of the current level of spread. The Satellite Pharmacy will remain open and we are working to arrange for any urgent needs.

The MTF will be open with limited services on Monday and working to provide only those essential services.

Public Health has done extensive contact tracing for those who have tested positive, and has contacted all of those who had close contact and are at risk. MDG leadership is dedicated to safeguarding our members, while recognizing the need to accomplish medical care and ensure mission capabilities across the wing.

In accordance with public health tracing, the Child Development Center will close one classroom for deep cleaning and impacted parents are being notified. The classroom will reopen on Monday, 22 June along with the PAFB Fitness Center.

As a reminder, all personnel are strongly encouraged to follow safety protocols issued by the Centers for Disease Control (CDC) and the State of Florida.

· Physical Distancing. Wherever possible, all individuals should maintain a minimum of six feet of physical distance from other individuals.

· Disciplined Personal Hygiene. Frequently wash hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds or using >60% alcohol hand sanitizer. Avoid touching eyes/nose/mouth. No handshaking. Sneeze/cough into the crook of your elbow. No sharing food, drink, towels, or utensils.

· Face Coverings. Face coverings must be worn to enter/exit all buildings and to/from work areas (e.g. walking in the hallway), and when six feet of physical distancing is not possible. Coverings must be worn at all time while visiting the MDG clinic, Base Exchange & Commissary, Riverside Dining Facility, the Post Office, Child Development Center, Youth Center, and all customer service locations (to include the Visitor Control Center, Finance Office, Military and Civilian Personnel Offices, and Legal Office). Persons without a cloth face covering will be denied access to these locations.

When in doubt wear a face coverings and highly recommend members wear a face covering when off base as well when appropriate physical distancing cannot be maintained.

Any individual experiencing symptoms consistent with COVID-19 should contact Public Health at (321) 494-8292/8193, after seeking care from their primary care provider. If you are a beneficiary with COVID-19 symptoms, you are strongly encouraged to be tested on base. As noted above, any individual tested for COVID-19, at any location – to include off-base testing centers – must report testing to 45 MDG and may be denied installation access until medically cleared by the PHEO.

We appreciate your patience, resilience and cooperation as we continue to fight COVID-19.

Respectfully,

Brigadier General Doug Schiess
