Good Deeds Foundation Provides Record Grants to All Brevard JROTC Units in Time of Need
On Friday, 31 July at Rockledge High School RADM Wayne Justice USCG, Ret, Treasurer for, and representing , MOAACC’s Good Deeds Foundation (GDF), presented a symbolic check for $13,500 to nine JROTC Instructors attending the “en mask” pre-school reopening JROTC planning meeting. Each Unit was given a real $900 check!! The total amount is a record by far for MOAACC and likely any other chapter in MOAA in the world. In addition, GDF will award $550 each checks to the two Sea Cadet and two Civil AirPatrol Units in the County and will try to distribute the remaining 6 JROTC checks before school reopens on 24 August, a delay caused by COVID.
Joining RADM Justice at the ceremony were MOAACC members CW04 Dan McIntyre USCG, Ret, Student Affairs; President MAJ Tim Pishdad USA, Ret; 1VP COL Steve Bond USA, Ret; and CPT Donn Weaver, USA Fmr, Public Relations and Marketing Chair. Many of the JROTC Instructors are MOAACC members, including the seminar leaders, LTC Brian Whalen, USA, Ret (Rockledge) and LTC Joe Pavone, USA, Ret (Cocoa). MOAACC officers also discussed many other support activities worked with the JROTC programs including Vets Back to Class (to go Virtual this year); the Veterans Memorial Center Museum and Park tours, programs and Raider Challenge Meets; Boat safety training through the USCG; Color Guard Ceremonies with MOAACC and the VMC; medals and special awards to outstanding JROTC cadets and more. The Instructors responded with clear gratitude to receive the record donation, but also to have the partnerships.
Thanks to all MOAACC members and others who support GDF to enable such record breaking events. That MOAACC and the GDF still find ways to complete our Missions despite COVID19 and pending hurricanes is noteworthy in itself.
